My Derbyshire Peak District Photographs

Welcome to this part of the site, packed with a collection of pictures from my visits of the Derbyshire Peak District. Like The Yorkshire Dales it has the same similarity, consisting of Rivers, Valleys, and some of England's most scenic countryside. Its location, starts from The North Midlands in the County of Staffordshire to the Pennine town of Holmfirth in West Yorkshire, famous for the TV series, The Last Of The Summer Wine. The Pennine Way, England's long distance footpath, starts its way from the village of Edale and ends its journey at the village of Kirk Yetholm in Scotland. These pictures are from my visit to the most popular and one of the easiest locations to get to using all modes of transport. It is only 10 miles West of the Yorkshire industrial city of Sheffield and is known as the Hope Valley. I travel hear regular by train, during the summer months. The village of Castleton is the most busiest, with its famous showcaves and caverns, while Edale further up the line is a very busy walking centre. Another popular town in the Peak District is Bakewell, Famous for its brand name and location of its Puddings and custards found in all cake stores and supermarkets. Bakewell is also a good walking centre and not far is a disused railway, converted into a walking and cycle path, called The Monsal Trail. This railway became a victim of fate to The Peak District in the 1960s, and like many railways which closed at that time, it was the Main Buxton to Ashbourne line.

Hathersage. Attractive town near Stanage Edge, popular with walkers and climbers. Also has historical connections with Robin Hood.
